Labor Day Ride Information Sept. 3-6

OETRA’s Labor Day Ride is the biggest fundraiser event of the year. Camping and ride fees go into OETRA’s treasury that are used to fund expenses at this and other rides throughout the year, to fund trail maintenance projects around the state and general club expenses. This year, we are having an additional fundraiser especially to supplement the purchase of corral materials for Robbers Cave. Plan to come and enjoy a weekend FULL OF FUN.

The fun begins Friday, September  3rd, at 6:30 with a Meet-and-Greet dessert party. On Saturday morning there will be guided rides led out at different speeds.
Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m., the club will hold a meeting at the pavilion. The potluck dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. so plan on bringing casseroles, meats, sides or desserts, please. Then at 7:00 p.m. there will be a Poem reading & Dance. If you have Any good western poems come prepared to read them. Anyone is welcome to join in with their favorite poem. (would be best read with inflection) At 8:00 pm we will have a dance for all to join in.

Sunday morning, we’ll have a special pancake breakfast. All the money collected at this breakfast will go directly toward the purchase of materials needed to build permanent corrals at Robbers Cave. You can give the suggested donation of $3 per person, or any amount you feel like donating.

On Sunday we’ll have a church service and then a scavenger hunt ride with prizes. Join us back at the pavilion for homemade ice cream at 1:00 before you head home.
When you arrive at the Robbers Cave gate, please be ready to show your current Coggins and pay the ride fee of $10 per person. This year we have a family fee of 4 or more for just $40. Camping fee is $18 for electric sites and $10 in the meadow.

Work Weekends are happening across the state to improve our Oklahoma equestrian trails system.

Heyburn Lake volunteers are working each weekend at 8:00 AM through September to mark trails in the Wildlife Management Areas because they will be closed to equestrians and opened to hunters on October 1, 2010 - January 15, 2011. We want to get as much of the 7200 acres marked as we can. For the sake of expediency, we have made geographical assignments to the Team Leaders as follows:

Jack Arnold jarnold@hillcrest.com
918-605-2615 North of Rocky Point toward HWY 33

Mike & Ruth Harvey mike.harvey245@gmail.com 918-605-5535, 918-645-4711 West of Sheppard Point from private land to Handicap access.

Sherry Robinson dobeginnings@windstream.net 918-231-9868 West of Sheppard Point from Bowtie to Private land.

Mike Whitehead, a local resident who has hunted these lands for many years, will be marking trails from the handicapped access westward. Once the other assignments are completed, we can then assist in any unfinished areas.

Each team leader needs 2-3 helpers. Horseback is probably best at this point with your loppers. PLEASE contact a team leader to let them know you will be on their team. They will tell you where to meet them--Sheppard Point, Rocky Point or other meeting place.

Margo Lyons is collecting tin can lids and bottoms for the permanent trail markers. You may contact her at trailinlucky@hotmail.com or 918-695-2332.

We can always use orange marking tape for the trails, blue marking tape for water access and clothes pins.
